Christine Stankard Kressley

Stankard Kressley is a product of her father's tutelage, the lampwork master Paul Stankard. Like him, she derives her inspiration from nature. For this piece she carefully studied cornflower blossoms to achieve the realistic likeness present here. The original was commissioned in a limited edition by Bergstrom-Mahler Museum to commemorate the 2005 PCA Convention, but Stankard Kressley added a signature Stankard Studios bee and a pale blue ground that echoes the blue of the blossom and bud to make this one-of-a-kind piece. Her "CSK" signature cane is in the base of the piece.

Jim Brown emulates antique English glasshouse Bacchus in his pieces, and this "garden concentric" is a direct homage to pieces such as PW 1790 in our collection. In this piece, pink and white split canes ring a central green and white crimped cane to form the petals of a ruffled camomile flower. This flower is ringed by circles of cog, ruffle, and complex canes in tints of green, blue, pink, and white, imitating the look of a well-coordinated flower bed. A row of green and gold cog canes around the outside seems to give this garden a tidy grass edging. Scratch-signed "Jim Brown 2005" on the bottom.

Jim Brown is one of the few modern paperweight artists working in the millefiori tradition. His work is praised by collector and peer alike for its precision, variety of complex canes, and pleasing colors. This modern millefiori paperweight showcases his skill with dozens of closely packed multicolored cog, ruffle, star, tube, and complex canes. These are encircled by a ring of green and blue cog canes near the bottom that are pulled down to the base. A red and white complex signature cane located close to the outer ring contains a black "B," and "Jim Brown 2006" is scratch-signed on the bottom.

Peter McDougall

One of Perthshire Paperweights' most talented artists, Peter McDougall heads his own thriving studio now. As a gift to the Texas chapter of the PCA and guests attending its 20th anniversary meeting, collector and dealer Gary McClanahan commissioned Peter to create this diminutive commemorative paperweight. Concentric circles of variously colored eight-pointed star canes encircle a central complex cane containing the phrase "PCA-TX 20." The canes rest against a cobalt ground, and this miniature has groove cutting on the sides surrounding a top facet. A signature cane is found within one of the rings of stars.
